This military Omega 2777-1 SC is one of the most intriguing variants among the watches produced for the Royal Air Force during the 1950s.
The reference 2777-1 SC, also known under the military designation 6645 101000 6B/542, was commissioned by the British Air Ministry and produced in 1953, with approx. 5900 examples made in total.
When these watches were originally delivered, they featured dials and hands filled with radium lume and the characteristic, finely drawn "Thin Arrow" marking. In the 1960s, under new safety regulations, the watches were recalled by the manufacturer: the radium was replaced with tritium, and the arrow on the dial was redrawn in a broader style - thus creating the famous "Fat Arrow" versions.
The example shown here holds a particularly special place within that evolution: it still displays the narrow Thin Arrow at 6 o'clock, yet already features a tritium dial marked with the characteristic T in a circle. This combination is a strong indication that it belongs to a transitional or early conversion batch, making it extremely rare and historically significant.
The matte black dial is beautifully preserved, showing a perfect surface and a warm, creamy patina on the tritium lume that adds exceptional character.
The stainless-steel case was built to meet the highest military standards - water-resistant, shock-protected and anti-magnetic. Inside beats the reliable hand-wound Omega Caliber 283, a robust movement with rose-gilt finishing, renowned for its precision and longevity.
The screw-down caseback bears deep, crisp military engravings confirming the watch's official provenance. As is correct for this model, it features fixed lugs, perfectly suited for a NATO strap that reinforces its authentic appearance.
A rare and historically important military timepiece in outstanding condition – a true piece of British aviation history.
