The Aero-Compax is among the most intriguing creations produced by Universal Genève. This rare four-register chronograph blends the classic design language of its era with a feature found on virtually no other vintage watch: the so-called control-time sub-dial.
In addition to the familiar layout of 30-minute and 12-hour counters and a running seconds register, the Aero-Compax features a fourth, independent sub-dial at 12 o’clock. Its hands can be adjusted via the crown on the left side of the case and serve as a reference time — an especially practical function for pilots. It is a refined technical detail that gives this watch much of its distinctive character.
The silver dial shows beautifully developed, honest patina, giving the watch a fantastic vintage presence. Thanks to the absence of a bezel, the watch appears larger and more substantial on the wrist than its 33 mm diameter would suggest. The delicate blue tachymeter scale adds sporty elegance, while the diamond-shaped hands contribute an extra touch of refinement and charm.
Inside ticks the reliable in-house Universal Genève Caliber 283, a robust and precise chronograph movement of its time. The watch is further enhanced by an original Universal Genève buckle — an appealing detail for collectors.
With its four sub-dials, the Aero-Compax is an unusual, rare and historically significant collector’s piece with unmistakable character.
