With great pleasure, we present this exceptional World Time Ref. 5110P in platinum by Patek Philippe, crafted in the early 2000s.
The history of Patek Philippe world time watches dates back to the 1930s, when the complication was first realized in the form of a pocket watch. Ever since, the world time watch has been among the most iconic and historically significant creations of the manufacture. With the introduction of Reference 5110 around the turn of the millennium, Patek Philippe revived this legendary lineage for the first time in nearly half a century. Its direct historical predecessor was the famed Reference 2523 from the 1950s — this revival alone caused considerable excitement among collectors and connoisseurs at the time.
Reference 5110 was produced only briefly, between 2000 and 2006, and was offered exclusively in white gold, yellow gold, rose gold and platinum. The present platinum version, with its captivating blue-grey dial, is widely regarded as one of the most aesthetically successful world time watches ever created. The classic Calatrava case measures an elegant 37 mm and was also the first Patek Philippe world timer to feature crown guards — an element that lends the watch a subtle sporty character.
Particular attention is drawn to the extraordinary dial: the light-colored outer ring displays 24 cities, each representing one of the world’s time zones. The central dial is adorned with a beautifully executed, swirling guilloché pattern that adds depth and visual dynamic. Completing the harmonious design are the newly introduced diamond-shaped hands, created specifically for this model.
The most significant innovation of Reference 5110, however, lies within. The automatic Caliber 240 HU impresses not only with its elegance and reliability, but also with its highly intuitive operation. When setting the local time via the pulled-out crown, the 24-hour ring simultaneously rotates counterclockwise, ensuring correct display of all world times. To change time zones, one simply presses the pusher at 10 o’clock until the desired city appears at 12 o’clock. With each press, the city ring, the 24-hour day/night ring, and the hour hand advance synchronously. This ingenious system made the 5110 one of the most user-friendly world time watches of its era.
The present example is accompanied by its extensive original accessories. The original certificate documents the key details of the watch, including the date of sale in June 2006 by the renowned jeweler Gübelin in Geneva. Also included are brochures, the leather warranty holder, instruction manual, presentation box, and outer cardboard box.
This Patek Philippe is far more than a timepiece. It is a modern work of art, elegantly uniting the world across 24 time zones. Combined with its outstanding design, technical sophistication and excellent condition, this watch ranks today among the most sought-after models of the manufacture — an exceptional and highly valuable collector’s piece.
