This watch is an exceptionally rare and highly collectible version of the Heuer Monza Ref. 150.501 with black PVD coating — specifically the "Racing Mate" edition, which was produced in very limited numbers exclusively for the Japanese market.
This special variant was created in cooperation with Racing Mate, a renowned Japanese motorsport accessories brand that actively supported racing in Japan during the 1970s. Racing Mate was particularly known for its high-quality racing suits, helmets, and driving gloves. Many famous Japanese racing drivers, such as Tetsu Ikusawa and Tojiro Ukiya, wore the brand’s distinctive clover emblem on the track — an evocative cultural and historical backdrop that adds remarkable depth and character to this watch.
However, the present example stands out not only for its extreme rarity, but above all for its outstanding condition. The watch is preserved in New Old Stock (NOS) condition. It has evidently spent most of its life safely stored and was virtually never worn. The case, dial, and especially the black PVD coating are correspondingly flawless.
This is particularly significant for vintage Heuer models with black PVD finishes: coatings from this era are prone to scratching, which is why even well-preserved examples typically show signs of wear. Finding a piece like this — almost untouched — is therefore extraordinarily difficult and represents a true exception, even for seasoned collectors.
This Heuer Monza PVD "Racing Mate" Ref. 150.501 combines extreme rarity, historical relevance and a museum-like condition. It undoubtedly ranks among the finest and rarest black Monza variants in existence today and is a genuine highlight for discerning collectors of Heuer icons.
