Description
Extremely rare, preserved in near-new condition and offered as a complete full set with all accessories: this Hewlett-Packard HP-01 from 1977 is one of the most fascinating collector’s pieces in the field of electronic timekeeping.

This extraordinary model was produced exclusively in 1977 and 1978 – in correspondingly limited numbers. It is the first and only wristwatch ever developed and manufactured by Hewlett-Packard. It is one of the earliest predecessors of what we now call a smartwatch.

The HP-01 was a digital watch with an integrated calculator and red LED display. It featured a seven-segment LED with decimal point – typical of the late-1970s LED watch era, yet combined here with an unprecedented range of functions. For 1977, its capabilities were revolutionary:
- Date, time and interval calculations
- Chronograph
- Display of date and weekday
- Calculator

and much more.

The present example features a gold-plated case and is preserved in mint condition – NOS – with complete accessories.

It was originally supplied with a specially designed pen incorporating a stylus on the reverse end, required to precisely operate the fine pushers of the watch – a practical and highly innovative detail.

A particularly charming feature is the small stylus integrated into the clasp, which can be pulled out and used as a portable operating tool. This ensures that the Hewlett-Packard HP-01 remains fully functional even while on the move.

The full set further includes the original outer box, both the long and short instruction manuals and the pen with integrated stylus – an exceptionally complete and well-preserved package.

The Hewlett-Packard HP-01 is not only an extremely rare digital watch, but also an important piece of technological history. As the only wristwatch ever produced by HP, with its short production period and visionary concept, it ranks among the most iconic electronic timepieces of the 1970s – especially in this outstanding, fully complete condition.
