This vintage LeCoultre Memovox "Egg", reference 3072, dates to the 1970s – a period when watch design became bolder, more experimental and significantly more expressive. This remarkable timepiece perfectly embodies the spirit of that era.
The 1970s were defined by a search for new shapes and a departure from classical case proportions. The reference 3072 is an impressive result of this creative freedom. Its distinctive, softly shaped oval case earned it the charming collector nickname "The Egg". On the wrist, the watch feels substantial yet surprisingly harmonious – a design that immediately catches the eye while remaining very comfortable to wear.
The dial design is equally remarkable. The classic Memovox functionality with its rotating inner disc and the characteristic triangular indicator for setting the alarm time remains intact and is combined with an unusually playful design. The differently sized dot hour markers give the dial a dynamic and almost graphic appearance, emphasizing the creative character of this watch. The date window at 6 o'clock integrates perfectly into the design and completes the balanced overall composition.
Overall, this Memovox is an exceptionally characterful vintage watch with a distinctive design that uncompromisingly reflects the spirit of the 1970s. Particularly pleasing for collectors is the mint condition of both the dial and the case.
About Memovox
In the hierarchy of mechanical wristwatches with an alarm function, the Memovox holds an important position. While many manufacturers experimented with this complication only occasionally, Jaeger-LeCoultre developed it consistently and made it a core part of its collection. In the American market, these watches were sold under the simpler LeCoultre name. A central role is played by the Caliber 916. This movement was the first automatic alarm caliber with a full rotor and a high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The alarm sound of this movement is distinctive: thanks to the freely spinning rotor, it produces a clearly audible, metallic buzzing sound that is characteristic of Memovox models from this period.
