This extraordinary Fernand Surdez Players Soccer Referee Watch is not only incredibly cool but also preserved in remarkable NOS condition. Manufactured between the late 1940s and early 1950s, it ranks among the most unusual and charming sports watches of its era.
The watch was specifically developed for football enthusiasts and features four pushers along with four separate subdials, allowing goals and corner kicks to be counted during a match. The French inscriptions such as “Corner”, “But”, “Visiteur” and “Local” give the dial a truly distinctive character and immediately turn this watch into an absolute eye-catcher.
The “Compteur” – French for “counter” – is housed in a 38 mm gold-plated case with exotically shaped lugs. Particularly impressive is the state of preservation: both the case and the dial remain mint, a condition that is rarely encountered on such a unique sports watch.
Another remarkable aspect is the extremely low production number: only around 600 examples were manufactured between 1946 and 1950. While comparable sports and functional watches of the period were usually made of steel, the gold-plated execution makes this model even more extraordinary.
An exotic vintage collector’s piece full of charm – and without doubt one of the most fascinating watches for football enthusiasts and collectors of unusual complications.
