This is something for high-end Universal Genève collectors: a 1958 Universal Genève Polerouter Deluxe Chronometer with a breathtaking tropical dial – a watch that even seasoned collectors rarely have the opportunity to encounter.
The Universal Genève Polerouter ranks among the true icons of watchmaking history. Introduced in 1954 and designed by the young Gérald Genta, it was soon equipped with the revolutionary Caliber 215 micro-rotor automatic movement — one of the earliest of its kind and still regarded as a milestone in Swiss watchmaking.
Yet this example goes far beyond an ordinary Polerouter. The 18k yellow gold Polerouter Deluxe is already one of the rarest versions of the model line. The watch offered here, however, takes exclusivity one decisive step further and ranks among the rarest watches Universal Genève ever produced.
The reason lies within the movement. Only a tiny fraction of Caliber 215 movements were officially certified as chronometers. These movements feature an individual four-digit chronometer number as well as the engraving "Adjusted Two (2) Positions & Temperature" — distinctions reserved only for the most precisely regulated movements. Matching the movement, the dial is signed "Chronomètre".
The true rarity of this configuration can hardly be overstated: fewer than five examples are known worldwide today. Among Universal Genève collectors, it is considered one of the brand's ultimate collector's pieces.
As if that were not enough, this watch captivates with a spectacular tropical dial. Over nearly seven decades, the originally dark surface has aged into a rich, even chocolate-brown tone. The perfectly preserved gilt printing harmonizes beautifully with the 18k yellow gold case, giving the watch an exceptionally warm and elegant presence on the wrist.
This Polerouter is far more than simply a beautiful vintage watch. It combines Gérald Genta's iconic design, the legendary Caliber 215 micro-rotor movement, an exceptionally rare chronometer execution, and a spectacular tropical patina. For discerning Universal Genève collectors, it is without doubt one of the most desirable Polerouters ever made.
