Why this Zenith is known as the “Zebra” is immediately obvious. The reference A3637 was produced in several different color variations during the late 1960s. The black-and-white version offered here is among the rarer variants of this model.
With its distinctive design, the A3637 perfectly reflects the style of the late 1960s and 1970s. The anthracite sunburst dial contrasts beautifully with the bright orange hands and has been preserved in outstanding original condition. All hour markers and hands still retain their original tritium luminous material, which has aged evenly over the decades to a warm cream color.
The oval stainless steel case gives the watch a unique presence on the wrist. Its most striking feature is the black-and-white Bakelite bezel, whose alternating pattern gave the watch its well-known nickname, “Zebra”.
This example was obviousely worn only occasionally and has therefore remained in excellent overall condition. It is fitted with an original Gay Frères stainless steel bracelet dated 1971 with a Zenith-signed clasp, a combination that is rarely found today.
With its unique design and excellent original condition, the Zenith A3637 "Zebra" is one of Zenith's most distinctive sports watches from the late 1960s.
