Description
This exceptional Omega De Ville from 1973 forms a fascinating jewellery ensemble together with its original matching cufflinks and signet ring, beautifully embodying the extravagant and creative side of Omega’s collections of the 1970s. Particularly remarkable is the fact that the set has survived complete to this day – including its large original Omega presentation box.

At the heart of the ensemble is the extraordinary green dial with its expressive malachite décor. Its distinctive banded pattern shifts between different shades of green and black depending on the light, giving the dial remarkable visual depth. The highly restrained design, featuring just four applied gold hour markers, slender hands and the Omega signature, deliberately leaves ample space for this spectacular decoration. The result is a look that is both luxurious and highly distinctive, unmistakably reflecting the aesthetics of the early 1970s.

A particular highlight are the original matching cufflinks and signet ring. Their inserts are made of polished malachite, whose intense green tones and natural banding perfectly echo the colour palette of the watch. The softly rounded, almost square shape of the malachite inserts is repeated on both the ring and cufflinks, bringing the individual pieces together into a harmonious overall design.

The case is equally in keeping with the luxurious character of this De Ville. Crafted from 18k yellow gold, it features the softly rounded shape and broad stepped bezel typical of the period. The gold hallmarks remain clearly visible on the exterior of the case. Particularly elegant is the integrated yellow-gold Milanese bracelet, whose finely woven texture catches the light and gives the watch remarkable presence. The Omega-signed clasp blends almost seamlessly into the bracelet.

Inside is the automatic Omega calibre 711. This particularly slim automatic movement belongs to the calibre 700 family, which enabled Omega to create exceptionally elegant and slender automatic watches. Based on the serial number, this example can be dated to approximately 1973/74, placing it precisely within an era when Omega was experimenting with unusual materials, bold colours and increasingly jewellery-oriented designs.

Of particular significance is the completeness of the ensemble. The watch, cufflinks and ring are preserved together in the large original Omega presentation box, specifically designed to accommodate such a set. Comparable Omega jewellery ensembles from this period are rarely encountered complete today, as their individual components were often separated over the course of the past five decades.

With its combination of 18k yellow gold, intense green tones, malachite and the distinctive design language of the early 1970s, this ensemble represents a rarely seen side of Omega today. The fusion of watchmaking and jewellery design makes this fully preserved set an equally extravagant and fascinating collector’s piece from one of the manufacture’s most creative periods.
