This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date reference 1500 from the late 1960s features a rare blue “Mosaic” dial that has developed exceptionally pronounced and entirely authentic ageing over the decades. The characteristic texture of the dial and its individual patina give this otherwise classic and understated reference a distinctive appearance.
Reference 1500 belongs to the classic Oyster Perpetual Date family, combining the clean design of the Oyster with a date display at 3 o’clock. The stainless-steel case with its smooth bezel and slender lugs has the balanced proportions typical of Rolex watches from this period. The serial number in the 1.7 million range dates the watch to the late 1960s.
The defining feature of this example is undoubtedly its original blue “Mosaic” dial. This rare dial variation is distinguished by its finely textured surface, which gives the blue color a particular depth and changes its appearance depending on the angle of the light. In this example, the dial has additionally developed natural ageing over several decades. Irregular lighter structures and fine streaks have formed across the entire surface, creating a distinct contrast with the original blue. The combination of the rare Mosaic finish and this authentic ageing gives the dial a highly individual appearance without obscuring its original character.
Inside is the automatic Rolex caliber 1570, known for its robust construction and high reliability and used in numerous Rolex models of this period. The watch is completed by an original Rolex Oyster bracelet, reference 78350.
It is precisely the combination of the classic reference 1500 and the rare blue Mosaic dial that makes this example particularly interesting. Through its natural ageing, the dial has developed a completely individual character – an appearance that has evolved over several decades and simply cannot be reproduced today.
