This Omega Constellation Reference 168.009 / 168.017 from the late 1960s is a remarkable find, above all due to its exceptional NOS condition. The watch appears to have been worn only very rarely over the decades and today presents itself in NOS condition. Particularly impressive is the flawlessly preserved dial, complemented by the diamond-set bezel, the 18k white gold case and the original white gold mesh bracelet – an exceptionally elegant and rarely encountered configuration.
The characteristic C-shaped case is crafted from 18k white gold, as confirmed by the corresponding 0.750 hallmarks on the inside of the caseback. Especially with a relatively soft precious metal such as white gold, this excellent state of preservation is remarkable and further underlines how little the watch has been worn over the past decades. Alongside the Omega and gold hallmarks, the inside of the caseback bears the references 168.009 and 168.017 – a combination also found on documented examples from this generation of the Constellation.
A particularly distinctive feature is the fully diamond-set bezel. The individual stones form a fine and uniform frame around the dial, giving the otherwise understated Constellation an exceptional presence.
The silver-colored dial remains in perfect original condition. Its surface is exceptionally clean and shows virtually no visible signs of aging.
Inside is the Omega automatic chronometer caliber 561 with 24 jewels, one of the renowned chronometer movements from Omega’s 55x/56x caliber family.
The watch is completed by its original, finely crafted 18k white gold mesh bracelet with Omega folding clasp. The tightly woven mesh continues the lines of the case beautifully and gives the watch the distinctive luxurious character associated with high-end Omega Constellation models of this era. The bracelet itself is also in an almost unworn condition, perfectly complementing the exceptional overall preservation of the watch.
Altogether, this is an unusual and particularly appealing version of the classic Constellation: 18k white gold, diamond-set bezel, original white gold mesh bracelet, chronometer caliber 561 and a flawlessly preserved dial. Above all, however, it is the exceptional NOS condition that clearly sets this example apart from most surviving Constellations of this generation. After almost six decades, the watch still provides an immediate impression of how a high-end white gold Constellation of this period would have originally appeared.
