This exceptionally well-preserved Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 16528 from 1995 impresses with its unpolished original condition and complete original accessories. Particularly remarkable is the original green Rolex sticker still present on the caseback. A beautiful Zenith Daytona in a condition that comes very close to New Old Stock (NOS).
The history of the automatic Rolex Daytona began in 1988, when Rolex introduced the new Cosmograph Daytona with references 16520 in stainless steel, 16523 in stainless steel and gold, and 16528 in solid yellow gold. After decades of manually wound chronograph movements, the Daytona was equipped with an automatic movement for the first time. The technical basis was the famous Zenith El Primero, which Rolex extensively modified and introduced as caliber 4030. This first generation of automatic Daytonas is commonly known today as the "Zenith Daytona" and holds a special place in the history of the legendary Rolex chronograph.
Reference 16528 represents the most luxurious version of this generation. Its 40 mm Oyster case is crafted entirely from solid 18k yellow gold. The white dial creates an attractive contrast with the gold-colored subdials.
The true highlight of this particular example, however, is its exceptional state of preservation. The case has never been polished and still retains its original factory finish. The case edges and lugs remain sharp and clearly defined. The gold tachymeter bezel also displays crisp engravings and beautifully preserved contours. Particularly pleasing is the original green Rolex sticker on the caseback, which remains in place after almost three decades. A highly interesting detail for collectors, further emphasizing the largely untouched condition of this Daytona.
The original Oyster bracelet, crafted from solid 18k yellow gold, is also in remarkably beautiful condition. Overall, the watch gives the impression of an example that has been carefully stored and rarely worn over the decades.
Another major highlight is the complete set of original accessories. The Daytona comes with its original Rolex certificate, stamped by Michaud & Co. in Neuchâtel, the original Rolex wooden box, as well as the accompanying booklets, calendars, and other documents. A particularly charming detail can be found on the green Rolex outer box: the original white dot identifies the version with a white dial and therefore perfectly matches this particular watch. Especially with complete vintage sets, such small but correct details are of particular interest to discerning collectors.
Overall, an exceptionally well-preserved Rolex Zenith Daytona in solid 18k yellow gold, distinguished by its unpolished, nearly mint original condition, the surviving caseback sticker, and its complete, matching original accessories. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable generations of the automatic Daytona in such beautiful and complete condition.
