Girard Perregaux Deep Diver 9108

striking dive watch - rotating inner bezel - excellent condition

Description
Girard-Perregaux is a Swiss watch brand with a rich history that is often overlooked. There are a number of remarkable wristwatches from Girard Perregaux that are top notch both visually and mechanically. One of them is this striking Deep Diver Reference 9108 dive watch with a red dial. The GP Deep Diver 9108 was reportedly produced for 2-3 years in the mid-1970s, making it a pretty rare vintage watch.

As is typical for vintage watches from the 1970s, this diving watch has a striking and funky look thanks to the red dial. The condition of the dial is absolutely flawless, without scratches and without any spots. The imprint "SWISS <25mc" at 6 o'clock indicates the tritium lume material. The lume has remained original to this day and shines under UV light.

The Deep Diver owes its pillow shape to the famous case designer Piquerez, who designed watch cases for well-known brands such as Longines, Universal Genève and Jaeger LeCoultre. The watch measures approx. 40 mm in width. The case has sharp edges and hardly any signs of wear. On the case back you can see the Trident emblem surrounded by waves and the model name Deep Diver. The inside of the case cover is signed 2-70.

This GP deep diver has two crowns. The upper one is for turning the inner bezel and with the lower crown you set the time and date. Both crowns have a check pattern that is typical of diving watches from the 1970s. The winding crown at 4 o'clock is additionally marked with the GP logo. It is interesting that the crowns are not positioned on the same level. The crown at 2 o'clock is slightly higher than the crown at 4 o'clock. Similar positioning of the crowns can also be found on the IWC Aquatimer 812.

The heart of this watch is the Girard Perregaux caliber 461, also called Gyromatic. This movement has a quickset date mechanism. The date can be set directly with the lower crown in the outermost crown position. The watch runs perfectly and provides accurate time keeping. The Deep Diver is accompanied by a stainless steel bracelet that also dates from the 1970s. The clasp is signed with GP (Girard Perregaux).

In summary, this Girard Perregaux Deep Diver is a rare vintage wristwatch with a unique charm. It offers a great presence on the wrist and is very comfortable to wear.
