Omega Speedmaster 2998-3 Lollipop Hand

first owner watch - unpolished case - original bracelet

Description
This 60-year-old Omega Speedmaster 2998-3 is a vintage watch of highest quality: it comes from its first owner, it's super rare, it has been preserved in excellent condition and it has an attractive look. From movement to watch glass - every single part of this watch is correct and original.

The Omega Speedmaster was first published in 1957. The watch offered here dates back to 1961.

Thanks to the gentle, even aging, the watch acquired an almost magical attraction. The dial gives the watch a very warm and extremely attractive appearance. This is due, among other things, to the old original radium lume, which turned brownish over the years. The originality of the radium can be proven with the Geiger counter (see pictures).

Another rare feature of this Speedmaster is the hand set. The central chronograph seconds hand is a lollipop hand, which is extremely seldom seen in old Omega references. The hand contains original radium. The hour and minute hands are diamond-shaped alpha hands made of stainless steel with a radium luminous material inside. The sub-dials have elegant white leaf hands, which are also called dagger hands.

The stainless steel case with straight lugs is unpolished and still shows its original lines. Few natural signs of wear give the watch an honest and authentic character. On the case back you can see the deeply engraved seahorse emblem as well as the model name SPEEDMASTER and the Omega logo. The watch glass is the original acrylic crystal with the Omega symbol in the middle.

The black bezel of the old 1960s Speedmaster is the part that is most likely to be damaged and therefore it is often replaced. This Speedmaster still has its original authentic bezel, which is not in perfect, but in an honest, authentic condition. The bezel shows the BASE500 tachymeter scale that matches this reference.

The movement of this Speedmaster is the Omega-signed manual winding caliber 321 with the engraved eight-digit serial number. The chronograph has been checked and operates flawlessly and precisely.

The Speedmaster is accompanied by the ultra-rare Omega stainless steel bracelet from 1960. The bracelet reference is 7077/6. The number 6 stands for the rare end links with reference 6. The special feature of this bracelet is the fact that no reference number is engraved on the clasp. There is just the year of manufacture - in this case 4/60 (fourth quarter 1960). The short clasp bears the Omega symbol.

We bought this Omega Speedmaster from its first owner. In 2020 we ordered an official Omega archive, confirming the originality of this Omega Speedmaster. The watch was produced on March 31, 1961.

The most important characteristics of a valuable vintage Omega Speedmaster are condition, originality and its appearance. The watch offered here masters all of these criteria with flying colors.
