Heuer Autavia 2446 Big Subs Full Lume

the holy grail - ultra rare first execution - unpolished case

Description
It is the first and rarest execution of the Heuer Autavia 2446 with full lume hands and markers. This Autavia is considered by collectors to be the "finest Vintage Heuer Chronograph".

In 1962, Heuer presented the first chronograph with a rotating bezel and a model name on the dial - the Heuer Autavia. The early versions of the Heuer Autavia 2446 had a screwed case and large sub-registers, which is why collectors call them "Big Subs" or "Big Register" Autavia. Today fewer than 10 examples are known. This model achieved the record price for a publicly sold Heuer watch.

Among the Big Subs there was a first execution with full-lume hands and a second version with steel-bordered hands. The watch we have here features full lume hands and at the same time it has a relatively high serial number 53xxx. That combination is pretty unusual. The full lume hands have so far been seen in the low serial number range 49169-49285. And the serial number 53xxx would rather fit the serial number range of the version with steel hands. One important fact, however, suggests that this Autavia was "born" with these very hands: It is the patina that has aged evenly and absolutely comparable in the hour markers and hands. It is also important to remember that the serial number range findings are based on fewer than 10 specimen. Probably we found here a very special version of the Big Sub Autavia.

An almost magical highlight of this Heuer Autavia is its wonderful condition, especially when you consider the old age of this watch. The stainless steel case is certainly unpolished and still shows its original shape with beveled lugs. The engravings on the case back are crisp and clearly legible. The reverse panda dial with a black base color and white sub-dials has original radium lume, which can be detected with a Geiger counter. The matching patina in the hands and hour markers illustrates the authenticity of this dial and is pure magic for every true vintage watch lover. The entire dial is absolutely clean and has no significant scratches or stains. The rotating bezel shows natural signs of wear, but no chipping or rough scratches. Overall, the watch has aged very evenly.

But not only its rarity and a breathtaking look make this Vintage Autavia so special, but also its mechanics. The Heuer Autavia is powered by the legendary Valjoux 72 chronograph caliber - a movement that has been used in numerous iconic wristwatches, most notably the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona. We checked the movement and it runs flawlessly and ensures precise timekeeping.

This Heuer Autavia 2446 is an ultra-rare vintage chronograph with an impressive appearance, authentic in every single part and preserved in excellent condition - the holy grail of vintage collecting.
