Yema Rallye 9312 Mario Andretti

racing chrono - Valjoux 7730

Description
This 1960's Yema Rallye ref. 9312 is a distinctive racing chronograph worn by legendary racer Mario Andretti when he won the Indianapolis 500 in 1969.

In the 1960s, the watch manufacturer Yema, founded in 1948, presented some striking chronographs that were designed for extreme athletes. The Yachtinggraf, for example, was the official watch of the French sailing team during the 1972 Olympic Games. The first Rally Chronograph was presented in 1966: a racing chronograph with an impressive design and a robust Valjoux movement. In 1969, legendary racing driver Mario Andretti won the Indianapolis 500 and wore a Yema Rallye Chronograph on his wrist, which is why this model is now nicknamed "Andretti".

What makes the Yema chronograph so popular with watch collectors is its impressive dial design with a black and white base color. The connection to motorsport is shown with the two checkered flags in the center of the dial. The two red vertical stripes give the dial an additional sporty touch. The chronograph minute counter is at 3 o'clock and the small running seconds at 9. The two chronograph hands have a triangular tip. The black bezel shows a tachymeter scale. The watch is powered by the robust and reliable manual-wound Valjoux caliber 7730.

Today there is a new edition of the Yema Rallye Chronograph, which makes the rare original vintage version from the 1960s even more valuable and sought-after.
