This 1957 Rolex Oyster Precision 4377 features a rare "Semi-California" radium dial. Both markers and hands still have the original radium luminous material.
This watch was stored in a safe for several decades, which is proven by the traces on the dial caused by the radiation from the radium in hands. Due to the fact that the watch was not wound for a very long time, the hand position was "frozen", causing the radioactive luminous material to react with the dial and the radium to leave its mark exactly where the hour and minute hands were. For discerning vintage collectors, this patina, which at first glance may appear to be some sort of defect, is proof of the pristine nature of this watch. Absolutely exceptional and not reproducible.
Thanks to the large Arabic numerals, the watch is not only easy to read, but also a real eye-catcher. Dials that have the triangular marker at 12 o'clock, rectangular markers at 3, 6 and 9, and Arabic numerals 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 are called Semi-California. A "California" dial, on the other hand, has Roman numerals at the top and Arabic numerals at the bottom.
