This spectacular Eberhard Pre Extra Fort from the late 1930s features a perfectly aged tropical dial the likes of which we have rarely seen.
The stunning tropical patina is so uniform that you might think the dial was originally made in this warm cappuccino color. In fact, it was once a deep black. This fascinating discoloration tells a unique story that is sure to fascinate collectors of vintage watches.
Another exceptional detail is the Breguet numerals from 1 to 12, except for the numbers 3, 6 and 9, which are replaced by the three sub-dials. This combination gives the dial a unique and harmonious aesthetic. The rare three-register dial, which differs from the two-register versions that were common until 1938, is an important rarity in the evolution of chronographs.
The oversized 40 mm stainless steel case, typical of early pilot and military watches, gives this timepiece an imposing presence. The stepped case with the original oval chronograph pushers underlines the historical authenticity of the model - a characteristic design feature of chronographs from the 1930s and 1940s.
Inside is the legendary Caliber 16000, one of the first chronograph movements to measure split times. An innovative "slider" at 4 o'clock made it possible to stop and restart the chronograph without resetting the time already measured.
This watch is a true rarity whose combination of historical significance, technical sophistication and unique aesthetics make it an irreplaceable collector's item.
