This is an ultra-rare 1968 chronograph Heuer Autavia 2446 with full lume rectangular hour markers.
The early 1960s Heuer Autavia chronographs are increasingly sought after by collectors. Historical relevance, connection to motorsport, aesthetic appearance, reliable movements and rarity are the most important reasons for the stable value of these watches. In the short time between 1962 and 1969, different dials were produced, which are admired and studied by vintage collectors today.
The specialty of this particular Autavia is the ultra-rare dial design with rectangular hour markers made entirely of tritium lume. Apart from this version, only the very first Autavia with larger sub-registers (Big Subs) had this marker configuration.
The tritium luminous material is original and has a nice creamy patina to match the hands. This gives the watch a warm and highly attractive appearance. The reverse panda dial is wonderfully preserved and does not show any stains, scratches or other noteworthy spots.
The stainless steel case of this Heuer Autavia is a highlight in itself. It has just a few natural signs of wear, but is unpolished and has intact beveled lugs. The case back shows sharp engravings of the HEUER logo and the words: "CHRONOGRAPH WATERPROOF GUARANTEED 330 FT UNDER WATER STAINLESS STEEL". The black bezel can be rotated in both directions and shows 1 through 11 hours and a triangle at 12 o'clock. The bezel has natural signs of wear assuring an authentic and beautiful vintage look.
The Autavia is powered by the legendary manual-wound caliber Valjoux 72. This movement is known for its reliability and robustness, which is why it can be found in many well-known chronographs such as the Rolex Daytona.
From the collector's point of view, this Heuer Autavia 2446 belongs to the crème de la crème of vintage chronographs.
